Simplicity for Students
Find out how to relax and enjoy with simplicity as a student.
In a busy world it can be nice to take a second and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. This blog directed to students will dive into ways you can enjoy and relax with simplicity, so ready on and enjoy a student life of peace and ease.
How can you enjoy Simplicity?
Spend some Quality Time
You may have already heard of it before, Quality Time. The time spent to grow, develop, and strengthen relationships by giving the other person your undivided attention. Giving them an active listening ear, and eye contact without wondering to your phone, will make them feel loved, special, and important. You can do this with your partner, family, friends, or even your new Unilife Neighbours! Remember Quality Time is about the quality of your time together, less so about the quantity of time. This can delve into your conversations or the activities you do together. Even if it’s just walking to the Unilife Hot Chocolate Machine whilst having a meaningful conversation.
Get a Hobby
If you already have a hobby, that’s great, if you don’t have one, it will be good to have one, and here is why! Hobbies can be a great way to get your mind off things and enjoy the present moment. Simply because it requires your focus. Your hobby can be something as simple as reading, walking, or cooking, as long as it makes you happy and you are ready to give it your undivided attention. Doing something you love will also encourage you to do it more often, so delve into it fully and simply enjoy.
Exercise
Another way of enjoying simplicity is getting some simple exercise. This is fairly similar to the previous subject ‘Get a Hobby’, although it focuses on the core objective of simple exercise. This can range from enjoying the Unilife Gym, to mindfully using the stairs at your halls of residence. You can also get some exercise by going for a stroll outside or by joining one of our Yoga classes, which are held outside for some fresh air and nature in the summer.
Other Simple things you can enjoy at Unilife;
Practice playing an instrument in our music room
Exercise in the Unilife Gym for free
Play card games or table games, like pool, table tennis, or monopoly
Enjoy our free breakfast, snacks and drinks
Spending quality time with your Unilife Neighbours and the Unilife Team
Reading, working, or doing art in the Study Nook
How can you relax with Simplicity?
Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand - Henry Thoreau
Be Mindful
Being mindful partiality touches on the previous subjects of enjoying simplicity. Although it focuses more on how you can be mindful of yourself, your thoughts, and your actions. You can relax being mindful by focusing your awareness on your current actions, this allows your brain to have less space for unnecessary overthinking, and therefore makes you feel more relaxed.
To practice having a clear mind for a longer amount of time, you can practice mediation. Focus on your Uni The Teddy Bear, or Unilife Reusable Cup and only observe it without thinking about anything so you have a still mind. You can practice this for a few minutes starting from two minutes on the timer, to hours once you have mastered it. Your thoughts might wander off a few times in the beginning and that is normal and okay. When you notice this, praise yourself for the amount of time you have stayed mindful for and kindly bring your mind back to stillness next.
Be realistic and optimistic
You may wonder what optimism has to do with enjoying simplicity. Well... Looking at everything with a “cup half full” attitude can help you put your mind at rest, simplify your thoughts, and allows you to focus on other things instead such as taking action where necessary. It’s important to keep in mind that positivity is not just looking at everything with rose coloured glasses and thinking everything will work out on its own. It is about looking at things objectively, looking at the positive side of it and setting realistic steps to ensure the entire outcome / bigger picture becomes positive too. An easy way of doing so is telling yourself that everything is fixable and taking the necessary steps to achieve this. If you are not sure how to do so, you can always ask a friend, family member, or the Unilife Team.
Get some good rest
Lastly, it’s very important to get some good rest. We have put this on the list because resting is one of the simplest ways to feel better in your skin and mind. Ranging from a good night's sleep on our comfy beds, to having breaks whilst studying or working. It gives your brain some time to rejuvenate and think clearly so you can go on with your day easily and simply.
