On the weekend of the 15th & 16th September a sunny Portsmouth became a place of much activity and excitement with the arrival of Freshers to the city and the University of Portsmouth. At Unilife residents new (and returning) arrived throughout the week, with the weekend prompting a surge of incoming students to settle in to their new home. With many residents new to the city and Unilife, our meet and greet pizza night on the Sunday night was the perfect opportunity to meet neighbours and the Unilife team.
At 6pm the first delivery of pizzas arrived! With the aroma filling the building as the pizzas were taken up to the Social Hub, residents began to arrive. With plenty of pizza flavours and toppings available and a variety of drinks in the fridge, there was plenty for residents to enjoy!
With conversation flowing throughout the Social Hub between different groups the atmosphere was chilled, allowing the purpose of the evening (to create new friendships and strengthen the Unilife community) to happen naturally.
Frank and Iulia were also on hand to help with introductions due to location (living in the same building), studying the same course at University and even interests such as sport, film and hobbies. Residents were present from all Portsmouth buildings; St James, Middle Street & Earlsdon, enabling individuals to meet not only their neighbours but also new friends from other buildings.
The pool table was a popular attraction throughout the evening with a crowd of residents enjoying the game as both spectators and competitors! Residents created partnerships and teams to challenge one another whilst others watched in anticipation to cheer or jeer the abundance of trick shots on display.
Another treat up for grabs for residents was the opportunity to win £10 Pizza Express vouchers for completing a feedback form of how they felt the evening went. Feedback for an event like this is very important to Team Unilife as we strive to meet resident expectations and ensure they get what they wish for out of the event. It also helps us to improve future events on offer.
