An equal world is an enabled world
The United Nations first recognised the International Women’s day back in 1975, each year highlighting a different theme.
In 2020 the theme is condensed in a simple hashtag #EachforEqual – meaning that as each of us is our own individuals, we all share the goal for equality and want to live in an equal world.
In the UK we can celebrate this day highlighting the contribution of women whether as Women in Science or any other social and economic areas. I am sure that you, like myself, can think of those women that have inspired your life, many times without the glitz and fame, but with the day to day examples in our own homes.
In recent years this date has helped to celebrate women rights and raise awareness in areas where women were still at a disadvantage. By bringing these issues to the news, there have been plenty of initiatives focused on eliminating the gender gap.
At Unilife student accommodation, we all feel part of a team that creates an equal environment for all our residents and our team regardless of their gender.
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved. We would love to hear from all of you about how you are celebrating Women’s contribution to equality today.
Chance to meet other people
If you feel like attending any of the events around the world, you can search geographically – In Southampton Phenomenal Women! is at the NST Theatre, but there are many other events highlighting other aspects of life, from Wine Making (and tasting) in Portsmouth to celebrate the achievements of Jane Austen in Winchester or even a quick trip to London and join one of the hundreds of opportunities to celebrate.
Let us know what you are doing - Take a picture in action and add #EachforEqual #IWD2020 #ultimatestudentliving so we can share and like!
